Description

Tibetan / Ladakhi Chab-Chab (Chap-Chap) Grooming Chatelaine
Western Himalayas, likely Ladakh, late 19th–early 20th century

Finely worked silver belt ornament composed of a central floral medallion set with turquoise and a red cabochon, suspending multiple articulated chains terminating in traditional grooming implements. Worn at the waist as both adornment and utilitarian accessory, chab-chabs formed an important element of women’s dress in Ladakh and Western Tibet.

The elegant filigree work, carefully set stones, and balanced chain construction distinguish this example as a particularly refined workshop piece. Retains original implements and stones.
