Description
Large Antique Thai Gilt Bronze Buddha – Ayutthaya Style, Central Thailand, Late 18th–Early 19th Century
A large and striking Thai gilt bronze Buddha seated in Bhumisparsha mudra (earth-touching gesture), symbolizing the Buddha’s moment of enlightenment. The figure features a flame-form ushnisha, elongated earlobes, and a calm, meditative expression typical of the Ayutthaya tradition.
The Buddha’s broad chest, softly modeled torso, and simple robe reflect the style of late Ayutthaya and early Rattanakosin periods. The surface retains traces of original lacquer and gilding, with natural wear and patina that suggest long-term devotional use.
Seated on a tiered base and mounted on a later wooden stand, this sculpture is a fine example of traditional Thai Buddhist art with strong decorative presence.
