Description
Moche Transformational Anthropomorphic Stirrup Vessel
North Coast Peru, ca. 100–800 CE
Ceramic with red and cream slip
A finely modeled Moche stirrup-spout vessel depicting an anthropomorphic figure with pronounced zoomorphic features, suggestive of feline or canid transformation. The elongated muzzle, wide almond-shaped eyes, and contrasting dark slip across the face create a mask-like presence associated with ritual or supernatural identity in Moche iconography.
The globular body and classic stirrup handle form exemplify one of the most recognizable ceramic types of ancient Peru. Surface wear and patina consistent with age enhance its sculptural character.
