Description

Fine Antique Silver Beaker Kandyan Sri Lanka Indian Antiques 19th Century

A superb beautifully executed tall 19th-century Kandyan silver beaker, richly decorated in deep repoussée and chased work. The surface is adorned with classic Sinhalese scrolling foliage arranged in tight, symmetrical panels, characteristic of the high craftsmanship of the central highlands of Sri Lanka.

Among the dense foliate work are several finely rendered animal motifs, including a double-headed bird, a lion, and additional stylised mythical creatures—each symbolically significant in Kandyan decorative art.

The underside is finished with a meticulously engraved geometric band, unusually detailed and crisp, adding visual balance and demonstrating the silversmith’s mastery. The plain, polished rim offers a pleasing contrast to the ornate body.
