Description

Antique Indian Silver-Clad Votive Figures – Set of 3 | 19th Century | Rajasthan or Gujarat

A Rare Set of Three Antique Indian Silver-Clad Wooden Votive Figures

Western India, Likely Rajasthan or Gujarat | Early to Mid-19th Century
Hand-Carved Wood with Repoussé Silver Overlay | Height: approx. 21–28 cm
Professionally Mounted on Custom-Made Metal Display Bases

This rare and finely crafted set of three figures exemplifies the rich ceremonial artistry of 19th-century Western India. Each figure is meticulously carved from hardwood and expertly overlaid in repoussé and chased silver sheet — a technique traditionally reserved for high-status ritual or devotional objects.

The central figure, distinguished by a tall crown and richly detailed attire, likely represents a deity, royal personage, or revered donor. The two flanking attendants stand in anjali mudra (gesture of offering), suggesting their role in a devotional, processional, or temple context.

All three are professionally mounted on custom-made black metal display bases, allowing for secure, elevated presentation while maintaining a museum-quality aesthetic. These mounts enhance both the visibility and stability of each figure without distracting from their original craftsmanship.

The depth of detail — from facial expression and jewelry to the finely worked garments — reflects the hand of a highly skilled artisan. The soft silver patina and surface oxidation are consistent with an early to mid-19th century date, supported by the figures’ stylistic attributes and construction techniques.
